Homelessness is close to home

Homelessness is at an all-time high. New data from St Mungo’s finds that 17% of people know someone facing a form of homelessness this Christmas

We conducted a survey about how close the reality of homelessness is to people and their loved ones this Christmas. The findings are sobering.

0 %
of people polled know someone facing a form of homelessness this festive season.
0 %
of people have been in temporary accommodation this year or knows someone who has.
0 %
increase in the number of people sleeping rough on the streets since 2010.

17% of people polled know someone facing a form of homelessness this festive season.

And a fifth of people polled have either been in temporary accommodation this year or knows someone who has. Not only that, but one in ten of those dealing with housing instability or risk of homelessness are employed.

While these numbers might seem shocking to some, it does not surprise us at St Mungo’s. Homelessness is at an all-time high at the moment, including record numbers of people rough sleeping, which is up 26% this year and 74% since 2010.
